Rounding up the biggest new Premier League transfer rumours - with news from Man Utd, Newcastle, Spurs and more.
It’s time for 3 Added Minutes’ daily digest of the freshest and spiciest Premier League transfer rumours – and we’re going to start things off with a story which suggests that Manchester United could get a cash injection as they kick-start their summer rebuild.
It’s one which would leave them with yet another gaping hole to fill, mind you. TBR Football claim that goalkeeper André Onana could now leave the club, with manager Ruben Amorim “open to selling” the £44m Cameroon international.
Apparently the Saudi Pro League has made “early moves” to see whether Onana could be available (we’ve no idea which club - apparently they act as a collective these days) and have “received encouragement” to make a bid. United would likely target Burnley’s James Trafford to be their new number one should Onana be sold.
The 3AM Verdict: No word on who much the unnamed Saudi Pro League might pay for Onana’s service, and we do wonder if the fact that such stories always describe the entire league as making enquiries, rather than an actual club or two, reflects a reality or whether it’s just a slightly lazy aspect of Western journalism. We can guess which. Anyway, apparently Onana is positive about making the move too, which should smooth things along.
Newcastle United could trigger £43m striker clause
Newcastle, meanwhile, are doing some summer planning of their own – and Sport Witness have now made them the latest club to be connected with a move for Fiorentina forward Moise Kean, with stories from the Italian media credited with making the link. The one-time Everton striker has been on fire in Serie A this season and supposedly has a €52m (£43m) release clause in his contract, with a “concrete possibility” that Newcastle could be the team that triggers it.
The bad news is that the clause is only active for two weeks at the very beginning of July – and as it sounds as though Newcastle are mostly considering Kean as a replacement for Alexander Isak should the Swede leave, that makes the timing rather awkward. There may be minimal clarity on Isak’s situation when the time comes.
The 3AM Verdict: We do think several teams are seriously monitoring Kean, who seems to have finally moved past his patchy early work to start living up the hype – but if Newcastle only want him to replace Isak, we doubt this happens. The odds on Isak leaving seem very thin indeed. Good to have a Plan B, anyway.
German giants to battle Spurs & Manchester City for signing
Our final story today comes courtesy of 90min, who allege that the two teams most keen on 19-year-old Southampton forward Tyler Dibling – Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur – could have some serious competition this summer.
Bayern Munich are now keen on the teenager, along with their compatriots RB Leipzig, whose interested has been reported on a number of previous occasions. Dibling is “unlikely” to follow the Saints down into the second tier but while both Spurs and City are “admirers” of his talent, they may now find it tougher to get hold of him. There’s more bad news for Spurs fans in the Spanish media, too – Relevo claim that Atlético Madrid have set their sights on signing centre-half Cristian Romero this summer.
The 3AM Verdict: No word on a fee for Dibling, with early estimates we saw (typically over £50m) sounding rather optimistic. That will determine what happens next, and if the Saints hold out for silly money it could easily scare the Bundesliga sides away.
