Israel media react as Leeds United's Manor Solomon captains his country in 4-2 loss against Norway

Manor Solomon and Israel could not build on the weekend’s win over Estonia against Norway on Tuesday night, as Erling Haaland’s side secured a 4-2 win over the Leeds United winger.

Israel could not have started their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign better, securing a narrow 2-1 win over Estonia. Solomon provided the difference with the assist for the winner, described as “brilliant”.

Having gone six games without a goal or an assist for Leeds, Daniel Farke will have been delighted to see Solomon pick up an assist against Estonia. But on Tuesday night, Norway provided a tougher test.

Indeed, the likes of Leeds-born Haaland and Martin Odegaard put Israel to the sword. Haaland got his name on the score sheet and Odegaard laid on three goals as Norway ran out 4-2 winners on the night.

While Norway were favourites, Israel put up a good fight. Indeed, they cancelled out Norway’s opener and got a second late on as a consolation – Leeds-linked striker Dor Turgeman netting in injury time.

Solomon failed to get a goal or lay on an assist but he did wear the Israel captain’s armband and Sports Walla described him as one of Israel’s “most-prominent players”. SPORT 5 gave Solomon a rating of 5/10.

What Graeme Bailey has said about Manor Solomon’s future

Solomon remains a key player in Leeds’ pursuit of promotion, as the on-loan Tottenham man looks set to start on Saturday despite the quick turnaround. Leess begin their eight-game run-in against Swansea.

But what happens with Solomon after the remaining eight games? Graeme Bailey told LeedsUnited.News that Leeds are confident a deal for the Tottenham ace will be completed if the club do get promoted.

Solomon is believed to be rated by Spurs in the region of £10m-£15m, a fee Leeds will be able to afford if promoted to the Premier League but stand little chance of doing so if they fail to be promoted in May.
