Ally McCoist has completely ignored Mo Salah and Harry Kane after naming the Premier League’s best-ever forwards. The former Rangers star was given the task on talkSPORT, and made some controversial picks.

McCoist claimed Newcastle icon Alan Shearer was an automatic pick, with his 260 league goals still an all-time record. And while Kane and Salah have gotten close to matching Shearer’s eye-watering numbers over recent years, does not believe they rank in the best three Premier League forwards of all-time.

“I don’t think Harry Kane is getting in it,” McCoist said. “Mohammed Salah’s not getting in it… So Liverpool fans will have Mo Salah as an all-time great; who am I to say he’s not?

“For example, where it’s a conversation, my front three I’d have Alan Shearer through the middle because his stats as a centre-forward are incomparable to anybody’s.”

And while Salah and Kane were not included in McCoist’s selection, he still plumped for some Manchester United and Arsenal icons. He added: “I’m playing Thierry Henry on one side; of course, I’m playing Cristiano Ronaldo on the other side..

“There’ll be Liverpool fans out there saying Salah has to play; there’ll be Chelsea fans saying Didier Drogba must play through the middle.

“It’s a brilliant discussion and argument because you could pick yours, and it could be three completely different players. If I’m just talking all-time greats, it’s those three.”

Both Kane and Salah could potentially match Shearer’s all-time Premier League goalscoring record in the near future. As it stands, the former has 213 goals and has regularly underlined his ambition on breaking the record.

That task has been paused for the time being with Kane currently employed by German giants Bayern Munich. But he could potentially move back to the Premier League soon amid reports of a bargain release clause written into his contract, while Liverpool are apparently interested in signing him.

Speaking of the Reds, they are still attempting to keep Salah at Anfield with just a few months remaining on his contract. The Egyptian still has some way to go should he want to beat Shearer’s record having scored 184 goals throughout his Premier League career both with Chelsea and Liverpool. He is currently on track for the most prolific season of his career so far having scored 27 Premier League goals this term - his most productive campaign seeing him hit 32 during the 2017/18 campaign.
