The first NBA game that will tip off tonight features two injury-riddled teams battling for a top pick in the draft. The Washington Wizards are visiting Pennsylvania to take on the Philadelphia 76ers in Wells Fargo center. Both teams have been battling injuries all season long, leading to their struggles this year.
With that in mind, let's take a look at the key injuries for both teams as they look to salvage some silver linings for their troubles this season.
Philadelphia 76ers Injury Report vs. Wizards
The 76ers are dealing with multiple injuries to their key stars. At the time of writing, nine players are listed on the Injury Report as OUT. This list includes some key players for the team, players that were supposed to help lead them to the playoffs.
Both Joel Embiid and Paul George have been listed as OUT by the Sixers for the rest of the season. Embiid was shut down for the year due to his nagging knee injuries. Similarly, George was ruled out for the season after suffering a groin injury.
In addition, breakout star Tyrese Maxey is yet to return for the Sixers from his sprained finger and back issues. Other notable names that won't play against the Wizards are rookie Jared McCain (knee), Andre Drummond (toe), Eric Gordon (wrist), Kyle Lowry (hip), Kelly Oubre (knee), and Lonnie Walker (neck).
Washington Wizards Injury Report vs. 76ers
For the Wizards, most of their injuries have come more recently. Eight players are on their injury list for their game against the Sixers, with seven of them being ruled out. Forward Anthony Gill is listed as questionable due to left hip soreness.
Wizards veterans Khris Middleton (ankle), Marcus Smart (finger), and Malcolm Brodgon are all out due to injury management. Sophomore Bilal Coulibaly has been ruled out for the year due to a hop injury he suffered a few weeks ago. Forward Corey Kispert suffered the same fare, as surgery on his injured thumb caused him to be taken out for the year.
The latest additon to the injury report is rookie Kyshawn George, who suffered an ankle sprain in their loss to the Raptors on Monday. The good news is that the Wizards are expecting the return of one of their off-season acquisitions soon. Saddiq Bey, who suffered an ACL tear last season, is gearing up for a return soon.
The Wizards should still have some solid pieces to play against the Sixers. Jordan Poole, Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington, and the emerging AJ Johnson are suited up and ready to play in Philly.
