Arsenal Enter Battle To Sign£25M Rated Serie A Player They First Tried To Buy 4 Years Ago

Arsenal have reignited their interest in Evan Ndicka, according to reports in the Italian media.

The Gunners were first linked with the 25-year-old back in the Spring of 2021 when he was still at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Ndicka eventually joined Roma in the summer of 2023 and he has been an ever-present figure in the Serie A side’s starting eleven this season.

However, the defender takes home a sizeable salary and newspaper the Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Romagiallorossa.it) claim that if Roma fail to seal European qualification, he could be offloaded over the coming months.

Why are Arsenal interested in the player?

Ndicka is a left-footed centre-back and he was originally targeted by Mikel Arteta’s side to provide cover for Gabriel.

Since then, the Gunners have signed Jakub Kiwior to fulfil that role but the Polish international is expected to be sold at the end of the season if a team matches their asking price.

With Roma said to be willing to let go of Ndicka for around €30m (£25m), it’s logical to assume that the Ivorian would be Kiwior’s replacement.

Ndicka does have other suitors

It should be pointed out that the defender’s availability has alerted other teams too. Gazzetta report that Nottingham Forest and Real Madrid are keeping tabs on his situation, with the latter needing reinforcements due to a number of injuries.

With Arsenal unable to guarantee Ndicka first-team football, it seems unlikely that a switch to the Emirates would be the player’s first choice.

The Gunners’ admiration of the Ivorian international is, though, longstanding, considering that scouts have kept tabs on him for more than four years. It is definitely a transfer story to keep a close eye on.
