How Gabriele Biancheri fared for Wales U19 with latest statement performance, he's ready for the next step

This season has seen Gabriele Biancheri become a goal-scoring sensation for Manchester United’s academy.

The Welsh forward has played both as the leading striker and also as more of an inside forward on the left, yet he has found himself at home in both.

Manchester United boast one of England’s very best academies and so Gabriele Biancheri must be very special to be standing out amongst his peers.

Team Goals Assists

Manchester United U18 15 5

Manchester United U21 7 0

Wales U19 7 1

Total 29 6

Subject to a deadline day bid from Serie A side Como, Biancheri is expected to make the step up and have a chance to impress Ruben Amorim soon.

However, this week, he has been with Wales’ U19 side and was equally impressive there as he has been for United in this resounding goalscoring season by the 18-year-old.

Gabriele Biancheri scores for Wales U19

The international break for Biancheri will have been both hot and cold. He played three games, but Wales lost twice. One loss saw Biancheri outshined by Ethan Wheatley, all while United scouted Tyler Dibling.

However, on Tuesday night, Biancheri lined up for Wales against Turkey and scored in a 3-1 win for the Dragons.

The goal was far from the most difficult Biancheri will score this season as he made a smart run to find lots of space, meaning he had what ended up a tap-in as he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.

This is Biancheri’s eighth goal at the U19 level for Wales in 10 games, a record which should be catching the attention of Craig Bellamy, Wales’ national team boss.

It could be that Biancheri needs to be called into the United first team in order to make the step up. But at the very least, a U21 call-up in June should be in order.

Gabriele Biancheri is undeniable for Manchester United

With Ruben Amorim handing out debuts and more expected to follow, it would be criminal if Biancheri was not a name involved in and around the first team during the run-in.

Biancheri has been – along with record-breaking James Scanlon – the academy’s best this season, carrying the U18 side at times in the title race against Manchester City.

So it seems bizarre that he hasn’t managed to get involved in training for the first team at least.

Possibly, Amorim doesn’t quite view Biancheri as a striker, and instead, the club are moulding him into a winger, which we saw him play more recently.

One certain thing is that he deserves a chance with the season all but concluded, with the exception of the Europa League.
