Mason Greenwood is said to have two months to save his Marseille career.

Roberto De Zerbi dropped the former Manchester United player for their penultimate match before the international break against Lens. Greenwood, however, did come on as a half-time substitute, but Marseille went on to lose 1-0 at home to a 94th-minute winner from Lens.

Despite his second-half introduction, Greenwood was again only on the bench for their away game against Paris Saint-Germain. De Zerbi did bring the forward on just after the hour-mark after Marseille had halved a two-goal deficit but could not find an equaliser, eventually losing 3-1.

That was the team's second straight defeat and third in their last four matches. Contrastingly, they won three of their previous four games before dropping Greenwood.

But despite De Zerbi's decision coinciding with their downturn in form, the coach is seemingly showing no signs of reinstating Greenwood. La Provence, the Marseille-based newspaper, claims he is no longer a key player in their starting line-up despite being their top goalscorer this season.

It reported that his "inconsistent commitment is hardly appreciated" at the club. They add that his time at Marseille should be over unless the player reacts positively to this "rough patch" between now and the end of this season.

Their headline encapsulates the sentiment - 'Mason Greenwood has two months to win back De Zerbi'. As such, United could be two months away from receiving further remuneration from Marseille a year after selling Greenwood.

Part of that £26.6million deal saw the Reds insert a sell-on clause that entitles them to a percentage of any fee the French club earn for selling the forward. Reports suggest that could be as high as 60%, and if that is the case, assuming Marseille at least make their money back on Greenwood, that would represent a significant windfall for United.
