Like always, Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez has enjoyed an extremely productive international break.
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, 24, usually enjoys the international windows because he gets to join up with the Argentine national side.
On Wednesday, Argentina thrashed rivals Brazil by a 4-1 scoreline in a World Cup qualifying match. Incidentally, they’ve already sealed qualification for the 2026 World Cup, where they’ll be bidding to defend their crown.
Fernandez was a key part of the Argentina team that lifted the most recent World Cup, and his importance to the starting XI is as strong as ever.
Chelsea’s central midfielder has just registered a goal and an assist in the same match against Brazil. In fact, Argentine media raved about Fernandez after his quality display in the fierce South American derby.

Chelsea fans observe Enzo Fernandez is becoming a bigger attacking threat after Argentina display
Chelsea supporters on social media were left celebrating Fernandez’s individual performance for his country in midweek.
Many fans on X all made the same point that the 24-year-old is starting to master the timing of arriving into the penalty box. It’s a skill that Blues legend Frank Lampard did better than anyone else.
One fan wrote: “Enzo Fernandez is now a problem for every opponent. The only way you can escape that box crashing is to man mark him.”

“Enzo is becoming a real box crasher,” another posted.
One supporter claimed: “Can’t undermine the work Enzo Maresca has done on Enzo Fernandez. The way he is attacking the box is new to his game. Slowly mastering the ‘Ilkay Gundogan role’. Can’t give him too much defensive responsibility though. It shrinks his game a lot.”
“Enzo Fernandez crashing into the box has been a constant thing this season,” another said.
Fernandez has been showing signs in Chelsea colours this season that he can be an attacking threat, scoring five goals and creating nine assists in 35 club appearances across all competitions.
Earlier in the season, Blues head coach Enzo Maresca claimed Fernandez can be more clinical as an attacking threat. We’re definitely seeing the Argentine star taking giant strides forward with that area of his game.
It’s no surprise that Real Madrid are interested in signing Fernandez because of his talent and potential, but Chelsea need to make sure they keep him central to their plans.
