Newcastle United are continuing work on plans for a pre-season tour in the Far East, with a friendly against Liverpool in Hong Kong under discussion, according to The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope.
“Confidential understands the Magpies are continuing to explore a pre-season tour of the Far East, with facilities in Hong Kong identified,” Hope reported.
With Liverpool also expected to travel to the region this summer, the idea of a Carabao Cup final rematch at the newly built Kai Tak Sports Park in Kowloon has been mooted.
A number of other top clubs have also expressed interest in the tour.
“We are told that Tottenham, Arsenal and AC Milan have also held talks with organisers, with games set to be played at the state-of-the-art 50,000-seater arena in Kowloon,” Hope wrote.
Nothing has yet been confirmed, but Newcastle began considering the Hong Kong option after it became clear they would not be involved in the Premier League’s Summer Series in the United States.
On top of that, Howe’s squad are also expected to return to adidas HQ in Herzogenaurach, Germany, as part of their pre-season preparations, as they did last summer, according to Hope's information.
