Virginia Tech Football: 3 Hokies could raise their draft stock at Pro Day

Virginia Tech’s Pro Day is Wednesday, with a slew of former Hokies looking to impress scouts and coaches enough to be drafted next month. Seventeen players are slated to work out in some capacity in Blacksburg. Since the season ended, some players have seen their draft stock rise, whether it was in workouts for the Senior Bowl, the game itself, or the NFL Combine.

Running back Bhayshul Tuten, wide receivers Jaylin Lane and Da’Quan Felton, and defensive lineman Aeneas Peebles have impressed, and others will look to do the same on Wednesday. Here are three players who will look to raise their draft stock with one month left before the big weekend.

Ali Jennings

It was a frustrating two seasons in Blacksburg for Old Dominion transfer Ali Jennings. Injuries played a big part during his tenure and never really allowed him to showcase the talent and ability he did in his first game in 2023 against his former team. He was injured a week later and lost for the season against Purdue.

He was expected to be a playmaker, but that never materialized because of injuries. The question he needs to lay to rest at the Pro Day is whether he’s healthy enough to make an impact and ready to take the next step in the NFL. When he’s healthy, he’s clearly a player who can play at the next level.

Stephen Gosnell

This may seem like a long shot, but wide receiver Stephen Gosnell was very good the last couple of seasons for the Hokies and landing in the NFL wouldn’t be too surprising. There were times when he was called upon by former offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen to make some plays in games for either Kyron Drones or Pop Watson and he did.

He is a tough player who is not afraid to go over the middle of the defense to make a catch and he can be sneaky good downfield, making plays and getting separation from his defender. He is a tough player who can go into a teams training camp and make some decisions difficult for some teams. It’s not a guarantee that he will get drafted, but he could certainly open some eyes with a good Pro Day.

Peter Moore

You might be thinking, a punter, really? Sure, it might sound crazy, but Peter Moore proved that he has one of the bigger and powerful legs in college football. He spent five years in Blacksburg, and this season, he was needed more than fans would have liked.

He finished the season with 60 points and averaged 45 yards a kick. He changed field position many times with his kicks. The Maryland native had at least one 60-yard kick in his last four seasons, with a career-long 69-yard boot this year. If he doesn’t get drafted, an undrafted free agent contract is a path for him to be punting next season in the NFL.
