Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof wants to play "at the highest level" after his departure from the club.

Lindelof arrived at Old Trafford from Benfica in 2017 and only Luke Shaw has been in the squad longer than the Swedish international, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

United attempted to sell Lindelof last summer to obtain a fee, but he picked up an injury and remained beyond the transfer deadline. Lindelof has made just six starts for United in all competitions this term and is set to leave the club upon the expiry of his contract in June.

Lindelof has been quizzed on his future by Swedish journalists when he's been called up to represent his nation in the last 12 months and he provided a fresh update this week.

"I don’t just have myself to think about anymore. It’s a decision we have to make as a family," said Lindelof.

"Of course, I always try to think about football and what’s best for me. But it also goes hand in hand. What I think will be good is usually good for the family.

"I’m making the decision with my wife too. Right now, we’re keeping our thoughts within the family. I feel that I still have a high level in me. The idea is that I want to play at the highest level."

Last year, Lindelof was asked about a potential move to Saudi Arabia and responded: "I haven’t actually thought about it. Maybe I don’t really feel like I’m there in my career, that I want to get down to moving away. I feel that I want to stay in Europe and play football at that level."

Lindelof has started United's last two matches in the Premier League due to defensive injuries, but he is still expected to be let go in the summer after spending eight years in Manchester.

The centre-back was signed by Jose Mourinho for £31million and has subsequently played under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick, Ralf Rangnick, Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim.

Lindelof has made over 250 appearances for United, winning the FA Cup and League Cup.
