Report: Wolves in 10-club battle for 'quality' midfielder who just helped humiliate Scotland

Wolves are set for a busy summer – and there is word of interest in another young player.

The club have had a season to forget in 2024/25.

Wanderers had a torrid start under Gary O’Neil, and his successor Vitor Pereira has been picking up the pieces since he came in in January.

He’s managed to get Wolves to nine points clear of the relegation zone and things are now looking good.

The job just needs seeing through now, and Wolves can then prepare for the 2025/26 season.

There will be a lot of changes to the squad for next term, with some stars set to leave when their contracts, and others will be sold.

Fosun must back Pereira, but there will surely be some moves for younger players with high potential, as is the way at Wolves.

Fosun will press ahead with their self-sustaining model again this summer, and signing young players for small sums will be conducive to that.

And one player Wolves have an eye on right now is Olympiacos starlet Christos Mouzakitis

It’s been claimed by The Sun that a number of clubs are interested in Christos Mouzakitis, the 18-year-old making waves at Olympiacos.

Clubs are also looking at Mouzakitis’ teammate Babis Kostoulas.

But it’s central midfielder Mouzakitis who Wolves are interested in, but Manchester United and Arsenal are also keen, as are Brighton, Villarreal and Atletico Madrid, Aston Villa, Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Juventus.

Mouzakitis was a part of the Olympiacos team that won the UEFA Youth League, just before the senior side – which featured Daniel Podence on loan from Wolves – won the UEFA Europa Conference League.

This season, after being promoted to the first-team, Mouzakitis has scored two goals and made four assists in 30 appearances across all competitions.

Mouzakitis has even already made his mark with the senior Greece national side.

On Sunday, he shone as he earned his second cap, helping to inflict a humiliating 3-0 defeat on Scotland and relegating them to Group B in the Nations League.

What José Luis Mendilibar has said about Wolves target Christos Mouzakitis

Mouzakitis has a very exciting future.

He’s already a regular for Olympiacos and has international pedigree.

And his quality is not lost on Olympiacos’ manager José Luis Mendilibar, who said of the gem back in February (via olympiacos.org): “He works hard, just like all the players do. Anyone in the squad has to put in the effort.

“But beyond effort, he has got the talent and quality that help him even more. We are happy every time he is in the starting lineup and contributes, just like we are happy when Kostoulas scores. Now, we celebrate Mouzakitis’ goal.”
