Liverpool have now been boosted in pursuit of “world-class” suuprstar this summer – report

Liverpool have reportedly received a boost in their efforts to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak at the end of the season, following a key update regarding his future.

The Reds must focus on signing a new centre forward in the summer transfer window, having flattered to deceive in that area this season.

Granted, Arne Slot’s side are closing in on Premier League title glory, but doubts are persisting over the likes of Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez, with the former injury-prone and the latter still too unpredictable.

Isak is seen by some as the perfect option for Liverpool to sign this summer, but Newcastle are understandably desperate to keep hold of their best player.

According to a new report from Caught Offside, the Magpies have “paused” contract talks with the Swede for the time being, with the Merseysiders thought to be on “red alert”, along with Arsenal.

Too expensive or the perfect choice for Liverpool?

Isak would be an incredible signing for Liverpool, coming in as a genuinely elite striker who could score goals at a relentless rate for the Reds.

The 25-year-old has netted 23 times in all competitions for Newcastle this season, while Alan Shearer has paid him huge praise, saying:

“I think there’s three world-class forwards in the Premier League now. Haaland being one, Salah being another. I think Isak has played himself into that company now.”

Isak would cost an eye-watering sum of money for Liverpool, so there would be some risk involved, not to mention the fact that he has suffered from injury problems at times in recent years.

If the Reds have faith in his fitness, though, and are preparing to break the club’s transfer record to snap him up, he could elevate Slot’s side to another level for years to come, arriving as the latest attacking hero at Anfield.

Liverpool have witnessed firsthand what a superb player Isak is this season, with the Sweden international firing home an unstoppable finish in the 3-3 draw at St James’ Park in the league back in December, as well as scoring in the recent EFL Cup final win at Wembley.
