Manchester City are looking to defend their Club World Cup title this summer
Manchester City could earn almost £100m from the Club World Cup this summer, with FIFA confirming how much is on offer from their bumper $1bn prize fund - including a guaranteed sum before even kicking a ball in the USA.
City are holders of the Club World Cup after winning the previous edition of the old format in Saudi Arabia in 2023 to compete the set of five major trophies won at the same time. They will defend their title at the expanded 32-team tournament in the USA this summer, taking on Wydad, Al Ain and Juventus in the group stages.
FIFA have secured a record prize pot for the tournament, committing to solidarity payments to clubs and associations around the world not taking part. Now, they have confirmed City's participation fee and the prize money on offer for progressing through the tournament.
City will bank between £9.92m-£29.58m for participating in the tournament depending on sporting and commercial criteria. As the top-ranked UEFA qualifiers according to FIFA's confederation rankings, added to their status as one of the world's top football brands, City can expect to earn close to the higher bracket in that figure.
They will earn a further £1.55m for a win in the group stage, or £770,000 for a draw, giving a maximum £4.65m on offer for a perfect group with three wins from three. A place in the last-16 is worth £5.81m, and a quarter-final spot is worth another £10.16m.

Manchester City won the Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia in 2023.
If City get to the semi-finals in New York, they would bank £16.26m, and a spot in the showpiece final guarantees £23.23m. Winning the tournament will be worth £30.98m (instead of the finalist prize money).
So City's total potential earnings from the Club World Cup could stand at £97.44m. Even getting to the quarter-finals is worth £50.2m, making the incentive to top their group even more pressing - if they finish second, they could face a last-16 clash with Real Madrid to put their progress in jeopardy.
FIFA also say £193m will be distributed to clubs around the world and no money will be retained by FIFA in their efforts to further global football development.
