49ers could harm Rangers reputation instantly with £20m Leeds United transfer swoop - Report

Leeds United are said to be one of multiple clubs across Europe that have been alerted to the consistent strong form of Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin.

Daniel Farke’s Leeds side are preparing for a home clash against Swansea City this Saturday, looking to boost their chances of promotion with a victory to stay top.

For the 49ers, their plans are two-pronged at present, with promotion the objective at Elland Road alongside their planned takeover of Glasgow giants Rangers in the coming months.

As the prospect of multi-club ownership under the 49ers becomes virtually certain, Leeds are now reportedly considering a move for a Rangers star in Belgian midfielder Nicolas Raskin.

A senior international, Raskin has proven to be one of the best players in his position north of the border, and therefore is gathering attention from clubs across Europe, including Leeds – per TEAMtalk.

Leeds, or any other club wanting to prise the 24-year-old from Ibrox, are going to be set a hefty asking price of around £20million, though.

Contracted until 2027, Raskin was a reported target of Leeds’ for a fee of around £6million whilst he was still playing for Standard Liege in his native Belgium, back in January 2022 when Marcelo Bielsa was still in charge of the club.

Leeds will need midfield investment and Raskin looks primed for big move soon

It’s hard to see how the first summer that the 49ers are going to be in charge at Rangers will bring a big transfer out of the club to Leeds – it would go down horribly in Glasgow.

That being said, it’s no shock Leeds are being linked with Raskin, given the uncertainty of Joe Rothwell’s permanent future and the need for improvements if Leeds are promoted.

Raskin is likely to be heading out of Scotland one way or another when a club with bigger opportunities comes calling, and Leeds might be a club capable of offering that in eight games’ time.

He’s always been a technically superb player, but also has an aggressive streak that probably means he’s more than capable of playing in the Premier League, if that move comes.
