**West Ham** will be looking to replace [Lucas Paqueta](https://www.claretandhugh.info/lucas-paqueta-bio/) this summer—regardless of the outcome of his FA hearing into alleged betting breaches.
As [Claret & Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/category/news/) revealed yesterday, Manchester City remain interested in signing the Brazilian midfielder if he avoids a long-term ban.
However, even if Pep Guardiola chooses not to revisit his interest, there’s a growing feeling that Paqueta’s time at West Ham has run its course.
There is no ill feeling between player and club, but West Ham have privately accepted that Paqueta is likely to move on. At 27, and with a stressful chapter hanging over his career, the player is understandably keen to put this period behind him.
His close friend and teammate Emerson is also expected to leave the London Stadium this summer, with interest building from Serie A clubs. The potential double departure only adds to the expectation that Paqueta will follow suit.
There remains a possibility that the FA will issue a ban, which could delay any move and see Paqueta remain in East London while a High Court appeal plays out.
That said, renowned sports lawyer Nick De Marco is believed to be mounting a strong defence as the case enters its second week.
Whatever the outcome, West Ham are already planning for a post-Paqueta future.
