Steelers fans should root for Russell Wilson and Justin Fields in 2025. Here’s why

In 2024, Pittsburgh Steelers fans got used to rooting for Justin Fields and Russell Wilson. However, even though they will be playing for the New York Jets and New York Giants, they should get used to doing that once again.

Wilson and Fields both will net the Steelers compensatory picks. Fields is projected to give them a fourth roudn pick and Wilson a fifth round pick. However, they could both be elevated to a third round pick.

They already have one third round compensatory pick with Dan Moore Jr. If both Wilson and Fields hit their maximum playing time requirements along with the incentives, the Steelers could have as many as three compensatory picks in the third round. That is a lot of ammunition to execute a trade up in the team wanted to do that.

There have been multiple instances of teams having two third round compensatory picks, but three of them seems somewhat unheard of in the era of the compensatory pick.

All of that draft capital sets the stage for the Steelers to make moves up the board for a quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft, which is expected to be a much better class.

So, for one more year, keep that rooting cap on for Fields and Wilson. It might just help the Steelers land their franchise quarterback.
