Man Utd's perfect Andre Onana replacement has had a flawless international break, he's 'one of the world's greatest'

The future of Andre Onana and the goalkeeper position at Manchester United looks very uncertain this summer.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper has never quite managed to live up to the world-class billing he was tacked with upon joining Manchester United in 2023.

On the back of an impressive Champions League final display, United signed Andre Onana from Inter Milan to replace the outgoing David de Gea.

Erik ten Hag had worked with Onana at Ajax, and many assumed this addition would see United finally head back to the top of football following a third-place finish and also two cup finals, but it didn’t go to plan.

Onana was extremely error-prone during his debut season, and now, Ruben Amorim is looking to find a new number one this summer after less than convincing performances.

The latest links suggest Onana could swap United for Saudi Arabia, which would be the best scenario for United, considering the fee would be very reasonable, and his wages would be offloaded.

Zion Suzuki enjoys flawless international break for Japan

United have been linked with a number of goalkeepers to replace Onana, however, Zion Suzuki remains a very exciting option, almost two years on from initial interest.

Suzuki would be the perfect successor to Onana, and his performance on international duty for Japan over the past week has added to this belief.

The 22-year-old Suzuki is Japan’s starting goalkeeper and had a big impact in both international World up qualifiers against Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, keeping two clean sheets.

Suzuki was key as Japan secured their spot in the World Cup 2026 next summer – the first team to do so.

All of this should certainly have United seriously considering adding the Parma star as an Onana replacement this summer.

Zion Suzuki has trait Manchester United need

Despite conceding a lot of goals, which is expected as the goalkeeper of a bottom-half team, Suzuki has produced some miraculous moments this season.

Compared to the bargain he would have been two years ago, Suzuki could now command a fee of £40m, which is a ridiculous valuation.

Suzuki is one of Europe’s best at preventing goals, which is a quality United could do with. Onana often gives goals away with individual errors, while Suzuki has zero errors leading to goals.

Back in 2023, Suzuki snubbed a move to United, instead backing himself to build his career slowly through some calculated transfers rising in levels each time. Now, the next logical step could be United.
