Real Madrid make move for early Trent Alexander-Arnold transfer

It is starting look inevitable that Trent Alexander-Arnold makes the switch to Real Madrid in the summer.

Numerous reports have suggested he is closing in on agreeing personal terms with the Spanish club.

The England international’s contract at Liverpool expires on June 30, 2025, and he is set to end his 21-year association with the Reds in a historic free transfer.

Despite no official agreement being finalized, Real Madrid remains optimistic about securing his signature, having pursued him for nearly two years.

Trent Alexander-Arnold currently earns £180,000 per week at Liverpool, but his next contract—whether at Anfield or elsewhere—was always expected to include a significant salary boost.

It is common for clubs to offer substantial signing bonuses and incentives to free agents, a practice Real Madrid is likely to follow to entice Alexander-Arnold to join them. This approach would not only increase his weekly earnings but also provide a substantial upfront payment.

And while Los Blancos will have to wait until June 30 to get their man if Alexander-Arnold indeed leaves at the end of his contract expiring.

As things stand, that will be at the end of June – but Real Madrid may look to utilize a new ruling as Lewis Steele of the Daily Mail points out:

“Real Madrid are exploring whether they can bring forward the expected transfer of TAA this summer so he can play for them in June’s Club World Cup.”

“TAA’s deal does not expire until June 30 so they would have to pay to get him out of his contract early.”

The Club World Cup begins on June 5.

FIFA has introduced an exceptional registration window (June 1–10, 2025) for clubs participating in the expanded 32-team Club World Cup (June 15–July 13).

It’s to allow teams to make some transfers to ensure their squads are at their peak for this redesigned showpiece event in the USA.

FIFA rejected proposals for temporary contract extensions, opting instead for flexibility to maintain competitive integrity
