Report: Leicester City plot summer swoop for Brazilian star

Leicester City look set to suffer relegation back to the Championship.

Leicester are nine points adrift of safety, having suffered 13 defeats in their last 14 outings in the Premier League.

The Foxes have lost seven straight games on the boune without scoring, so clearly, something needs to change in attack.

Ruud van Nistelrooy should give Jeremy Monga an opportunity after excelling for the under-21s this season.

Either way, the chances of achieving safety are very slim and it seems Leicester chiefs already have one eye on the summer window.

With that said, it’s been suggested that City could’ve already made contact to sign a Brazilian star on the continent.

Leicester are already plotting their summer transfer business ahead of what’s expected to be a Championship campaign.

According to Sky Germany, the Foxes are showing an interest in VfL Bochum centre-back Bernardo, who is set to become a free agent in July.

The 29-year-old started the season on the sideline through injury, but since returning in November, he’s been a key fixture for the Bundesliga side and is impressing a number of clubs across Europe.

VfL Wolfsburg, Union Berlin, Villarreal and CA Osasuna are also keeping tabs on Bernardo’s situation and the report claims that the Brazilian has already received concrete enquiries.

The club is unnamed, but it could well be Leicester, who have a friendly relationship with the Bundesliga outfit.

Bernardo’s statistics for Bochum

Bernardo’s FBref statistics make for very impressive reading, so it’s easy to see why he’s a man in demand at the moment.

The Brazilian ranks in the top one per cent for tackling per 90 minutes compared to his positional peers across Europe.

Further, Bernardo also sits in the top one per cent for aerial duels won and top five per cent for blocks, evincing how dominant he is at the back.

Clearly, if City do land his signature as a Championship club, it’d be a major coup.
