Borussia Dortmund reportedly could give Chelsea or Manchester United an exit route to move on Jadon Sancho during the summer transfer window.
Sancho is spending this season on loan at the Blues, and as part of that deal, there is an obligation for them to sign the winger permanently for an agreed fee said to be as high as £25 million. Their commitment is reputedly conditional on Chelsea finishing at least 14th in the Premier League this season, with Enzo Maresca's side currently fourth and 15 points clear of the bottom six.
However, the arrangement also purportedly includes a £5million break clause that would see Sancho remain a United player. That, though, is a scenario that now seems almost unthinkable.
The emergence of this clause also comes as Sancho is struggling for form at Chelsea. After scoring in consecutive Premier League matches in early December, the player has not done so since across 18 games, with his one assist coming in the first fixture of this year.
Therefore, the surfacing of reports about an option for the Blues not to sign Sancho this summer suggests the winger is not necessarily in their plans next season. A club who are said to be keen on the player, though, are Dortmund.
TBR Football claims that Chelsea could still sign Sancho before selling him to the German giants at a profit. Such a move would represent a third move to the Bundesliga club.
Sancho spent the second half of last season there, starting all six of their matches in the Champions League knockout stages and the final at Wembley Stadium, which they lost 2-0 to Real Madrid. That spell took him past 150 appearances for Dortmund, having previously spent four seasons there, scoring 53 goals and assisting another 64 across both stints.
