It earned La Albirroja a point, taking them to 21 from their 14 matches so far.

Enciso dedicated the goal to his Colombian girlfriend, who revealed that she was supporting Paraguay ahead of the clash.

Both nations are closing in on a place at next summer’s tournament in North America, which would be Paraguay’s first World Cup since reaching the quarter-finals in 2010.

“It was a fair draw,” Enciso told Versus after the match.

“I’m grateful to the manager [Gustavo Alfaro]. He gave me the confidence to be able to play in this match. It was a very tight game.

“I’m grateful to my family and I’m grateful to my girlfriend, who came to watch me. She’s Colombian, so this goal is for her and my whole family.

“I tried to take the shot, I didn’t hesitate. Thank God it went in.

“The manager always transmits calmness in us. In these kinds of games, you have to be calm. That’s what he told us, and we did it.

“We know Colombia have very good players, but so do we. It was a fair draw.”
