Roman Abramovich net worth dips one month on from Chelsea protests

Recent seasons at Chelsea have proven extremely divisive amongst supporters as new owners attempt to establish foundations for their future ahead, albeit with the lack of success seen under the previous regime.

Supporters vividly remember events over the past four years, from winning the Champions League - the last of Roman Abramovich's 21 major trophies won as owner - before he was forced into a sale of his assets in England and saw his UK citizenship revoked upon Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Eventually Chelsea would come under the control of a consortium lead by US businessman Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, who have invested over £1bn into players with a whole revamp of the playing squad and management more than once over.

To show for it in their two full seasons in charge, no trophies and no top-four Premier League finishes.

The 2024/25 campaign will be their third attempt. Whereas once upon a time the Blues looked like they could emerge as unpredicted title contenders, that dream ebbed away over the festive period.

The Europa Conference League remains their best chance to add to the silverware cabinet and they remain in with a shot of Champions League qualification for next year, though only if they are successful in a tight battle.

Recognising that this is simply not the Chelsea that struck fear into rivals in England and across Europe, supporters gathered in protest ahead of February's 4-0 win over Southampton.

Amongst the chants that night were those in favour of Abramovich and his Stamford Bridge tenure.

Ambramovich's net worth

The Russian oligarch's net worth understandably took a hit between 2021 and 2022, when Russia first began their invasion of neighbouring Ukraine. He was sanctioned not only in the UK but by the EU, Canada, Australia and Switzerland.

The figured decreased to £5.4bn in 2022 but now as of March 26 it stands between £6.04bn, according to Bloomberg, and £7.1bn according to Forbes. The latter's higher estimate therefore has actually dropped down from £7.6bn at the time of the Chelsea protests last month.

How does Ambramovich's wealth compare to Boehly?

According to Forbes, Boehly is a little behind his Blues predecessor. He is ranked the 347th richest person in the world with a value of £6.5bn, compared to the Russian's wealth making him the 310th richest, per the same publication.

Meanwhile, they add that Behdad Eghbali, the founder of Clearlake Capital, is worth £3.4bn.
