DK Metcalf was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this month after spending the first six seasons of his career with the Seattle Seahawks. He subsequently signed a five-year, $150 million contract extension with the franchise.
Before the deal, the New England Patriots were reportedly interested in making a move for the two-time Pro Bowler. Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports Boston recently revealed that Metcalf was not interested in joining New England. Speaking on WEEI's Jones & Keefe, the Patriots insider stated:
They go in on Metcalf, which Phil [Perry] did a good job of reporting there never was an offer made. I, kind of, in talking to you guys made it sound more like they were never in on him. I've come to find out that they were... They had conversations, an offer was not made, that's correct, but I've kind of been redirected from folks outside of New England that they were in on him. He didn't want to come here.
While the Patriots were unable to swing a deal for Metcalf, they did wind up addressing the position on Tuesday. New England signed Stefon Diggs to a three-year, $69 million contract that includes $26 million in guarantees. The four-time Pro Bowler missed the final nine games of the 2024 season after tearing his ACL in Week 8.
The Patriots reportedly have an interest in two-way star Travis Hunter to add further depth to the wide receiver position. They hold the fourth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
