Bills Explain Owner Terry Pegula’s ‘Analytical’ Look at NFL Draft

When the Pegula family bought the Buffalo Bills in 2014, the organization was in complete disarray. The organization was on a 15-year playoff-less drought.

That extended into an 17-year drought at the start of their ownership run.

Since that drought ended in 2017, though, Buffalo has finally found the combination that has worked perfectly for them. The organization may not have won a Super Bowl yet, but they remain a top contender in the AFC.

One of the more constant things during this run - outside of Josh Allen's elite quarterback play, or Sean McDermott's coaching status, has been the Terry Pegula family openness to improve everything about the team.

And that's something general manager Brandon Beane is appreciative - even during places like the Scouting Combine earlier in the week.

"Terry's awesome. He loves the process" Beane said. "He's got an analytical mind, and he sits in. He's one of the few owners that comes to the combine. He sits in all our interviews."

So what does Terry Pegula, 73, actually do in those meetings?

"He's taken a lot of notes - what this scout said, what this coach said, how I see it," Beane said of the owner, who bought the Bills franchise in 2014 with a $1.4 billion cash bid. "Then he'll come back, sometimes not in the room, but later he'll ask ‘Hey, y'all were talking about these two running backs, and you put this guy on top. But the way I heard it, I felt like the room like the other guy more. What am I missing here?'"

Having overbearing owners can be a distraction for the rest of the organization. Just because some owners are like that, doesn't mean the Pegula family is. In that way, they have been the perfect owners for the city.
