The NFL Draft is fast approaching. Franchises are starting to zero in on certain prospects that they want to target. Former University of Mississippi quarterback Jaxson Dart will likely be picked around the late first, early second round of the draft. Dart is one of the more highly touted quarterback prospects in this draft. Only Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are the other quarterbacks that will for sure be selected before Dart. So, which teams would be the best landing spots for Jaxson Dart, even if he is not a starting quarterback?
Potential Jaxson Dart Landing Spots
Although teams have expressed some concerns about Jaxson Dart, specifically his play in late-game situations, Dart is still projected to be a late-first, early second-round quarterback. Dart had an exceptional season at Ole Miss and was firmly in the Heisman Trophy conversation. He threw for 4,279 yards, 29 touchdowns, and just 6 interceptions while completing nearly 70% of his passes. Dart is also has dual-threat ability, rushing for 425 yards and 3 touchdowns. This is also with sacks counting against rushing yard totals in college. Whoever drafts Dart is getting an accurate, dual-threat quarterback. Where he could he land in the draft?
Pittsburgh Steelers
Although the Pittsburgh Steelers badly want to bring in Aaron Rodgers, this does not mean they can’t draft Jaxson Dart. First of all, Rodgers is not a Steeler at this moment by any means. However, even if Rodgers is the Steelers’ quarterback next season, Pittsburgh can still draft Jaxson Dart to be his successor. Rodgers is currently 41 years old, so his time in Pittsburgh would likely be very short. Dart could be the perfect guy for the Steelers to bring in and backup Rodgers for a season or two.
If the Steelers are unable to sign Rodgers, this bodes even better for Jaxson Dart. If Pittsburgh were interested, they could draft Dart and likely have him start right away. Dart would be stepping into a good, winning situation with head coach Mike Tomlin and wide receivers D.K. Metcalf and George Pickens on the outside. The Steelers have a late first-round pick at 21 and could use this on Dart if they believe he is their quarterback of the future.
Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams also have a late first round pick, sitting at number 26. The Rams know who their starting quarterback is next season. Matthew Stafford is still a top talent at quarterback in the league, and he won a Super Bowl with the Rams in 2022. However, Stafford is aging, and there were even rumors that he and the Rams could part ways earlier this offseason. This is where Jaxson Dart at pick number 26 comes into play.
Dart could sit and learn behind one of the greats in Stafford for a season or two. Then, he could take over the starting position from Stafford when he retires or the team decides to part ways with him. If the Rams feel that Dart is their quarterback of the future, they could look into taking him at number 26 overall. Dart would be stepping into a great situation for a quarterback, with offensive guru Sean McVay as the head coach and star receiver Puka Nacua on the outside.
