Don’t call it a comeback, LeBron James has been podcasting for years.
After launching the “Mind The Game’ podcast with his co-host JJ Redick in 2024 and ending it when his partner became the Lakers' head coach, James is bringing back the show with Steve Nash.
ESPN’s Dave McMenamin was first to report the relaunch.
The popular basketball show podcast will return on April 1st and will be available to stream on YouTube and Amazon Prime.
Steve Nash, LeBron’s new co-host, has a basketball pedigree few can match. He is a two-time MVP, a 2018 Naismith Hall of Fame inductee and the former head coach of the Brooklyn Nets.
He is also a former Laker, having played with Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard during an era of Los Angeles basketball that didn’t go as planned.
LeBron knows the obvious jokes about this being Nash’s chance to replicate Redick’s path and go from podcaster to coach. In the teaser clip, he mentions it and makes it clear he didn’t talk to Nash about it beforehand and wants zero credit if something like that eventually happens.
The teaser clip also demonstrates that the show appears to be keeping its original style.
LeBron is talking schematically about basketball at a high level, referencing plays such as angle-pop. He is also giving us insights into what he thinks makes for a good teammate while smiling from ear to ear while drinking wine.
When “Mind The Game” originally launched, LeBron mentioned he wanted to start a podcast because of his frustration with media coverage. To his credit, this show never went into tired GOAT debates, argued about players deserving awards, or kept up with the latest Twitter debates.
Instead, “Mind The Game” gave us a peek into how LeBron thinks about basketball and how he can see it evolving.
Even his greatest critics had to admit it was a perfect combination of educational and entertaining.
Now, for the relaunch, we get to see how Nash does in the co-host seat and how his basketball IQ will bring out the best in LeBron and push the podcast forward.
