Liverpool 'to make major Alexander Isak approach' as Newcastle line up replacement

Isak has 58 goals in just 100 club games for the Geordies and is expected to be the subject of huge interest this summer. However, given the current market, it’s expected to take a bid of around £100million to prise him away.

According to talkSPORT, Liverpool are set to push hard to sign Newcastle’s marquee player. Furthermore, owners Fenway Sports Group will seemingly press on with their pursuit irrespective of whether they lose Mohamed Salah this summer.

However, the Reds may avoid a huge fee by negotiating a swap deal for one of their stars. Darwin Nunez’s future appears in the air after his erratic campaign, while Newcastle were heavily linked with Joe Gomez last year.

Club sporting director Paul Mitchell has also reportedly registered an interest in soon-to-be free agent Jonathan David. The Canadian star has 32 goals for Lille this season but has opted against signing a new deal.

This week, Liverpool fans have been left reeling by reports that Trent Alexander-Arnold has agreed to join Real Madrid this summer. Capturing Isak would not only go a long way to diminishing that frustration but would severely boost Arne Slot’s forward options.

Regardless of whether they make the top four, Newcastle are expected to try and persuade Isak to sign a new deal once the season is over. The forward himself has remained tight-lipped on his future, insisting he’s not fazed by speculation.

He signed from Real Sociedad in 2022 for a £63m fee, a club record fee at the time. He’s continued his club form into the international break, starring with a goal and an assist in Sweden’s 5-1 win over Northern Ireland on Tuesday.
