An update has been issued on Andre Onana's future at Manchester United.

The goalkeeper has come under fire at Old Trafford for several high-profile mistakes since joining from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023. It has led to speculation that Reds boss Ruben Amorim may look to replace the Cameroon star as he seeks to build a team in his image.

Onana has been United's regular No.1 in between the sticks since David de Gea's departure that same summer. The Cameroon international has made 91 appearances, with his signing seen at the time as an upgrade on De Gea's ability to play out from the back under previous United manager Erik ten Hag.

Recent reports have seen the shot-stopper linked with a summer transfer to the Saudi Pro League. However, The Manchester Evening News understands that Onana is intent on staying at Old Trafford next season.

And journalist Fabrizio Romano, who specialises in covering transfer news, has claimed that while there is currently no indication that the former Ajax goalkeeper will be sold, it is too early to know for sure.

"No proposal or concrete talks at this stage, it’s still March, so probably too early. We will see later," he wrote in his latest newsletter for GiveMeSport.

Amorim has backed Onana earlier this season as questions grow over the goalkeeper's suitability for a club of United's ambitions.

"I think he passed this (stage) in the last year," the head coach said. "I don’t know for sure. There was some difficult moments.

"But this season he did some great saves that save our team and then sometimes has some problems. But that is normal and I think if you look through our team you can find a lot of players with that issue, so I think we are not performing so well as a team and sometimes some players have problems.

"People talk a lot about the second goal from Ipswich. He is waiting for the touch of (Liam) Delap. I think that is really clear, and then the ball continues to the goal, so that can happen.

"We just have to support Andre, like we support all the players, and prepare the next game. Forget about the past and prepare the future."
