The Premier League Golden Boot, much like the Premier League title, looks to be a foregone conclusion this season. Liverpool are well on course to claim the crown, with frontman Mohamed Salah out in front to win the Golden Boot.
But while the Reds look unlikely to be caught by second-placed Arsenal at the top of the table, Salah could yet miss out on the Golden Boot crown.
Salah has had a tremendous season and is currently top of the goalscoring charts and top of the assists chart, odds-on to win the Playmaker award too.
The Egyptian frontman has 27 goals this season and is well clear of second-placed Erling Haaland on 21 and Arsenal transfer target Alexander Isak on 19. The chances of him being caught with only nine games of the season to go, are slim.
But there is an outside chance, given the fixtures that Liverpool have left on the calendar.
The Reds take on Everton, Fulham, Leicester, Chelsea and Crystal Palace amongst their last nine matches to play this season. Those five teams are amongst the top ten teams currently in the Premier League that Salah has scored the least goals against during his Liverpool career.
Salah has four goals in nine games against Fulham and just five goals in 14 games against Chelsea. Only five goals in 12 games against Leicester is something of a surprise, with eight in 15 against Crystal Palace and eight in 12 against Everton.
Now that's not a bad record against some of those, to be fair, but does give the likes of Haaland and Isak hope. Newcastle play four of Isak's favourite teams to score against in Ipswich, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Brentford, with Haaland also taking on four of his favourite teams to score against in Palace, Man Utd, Fulham and Wolves.
It may be clutching at straws, but there's a chance of at least some competition late in a season where almost everything has already been decided.
