Former NFL running back Brandon Jacobs says he did cocaine once before a game in high school -- and maybe should have done it again.
That’s because he ran for 338 yards and four touchdowns that night.
Jacobs recounted his experiment a couple of times in podcast appearances last year, with one of those clips popping up again this week from the Raw Room podcast.
The former New York Giants star said a teammate who’d recently graduated from his Louisiana high school approached Jacobs before a game and asked if he wanted to try. He did, and took the field shortly after.
“Killed it. I destroyed it. It was easy. I felt like I was the only one out there,” Jacobs said.
“And I never did it again,” he added. “I should’ve done it again.”
That second line came as part of banter with the hosts of the show, who joked about how hard it would be to tackle Jacobs while he was on cocaine.
Jacobs was one of the biggest running backs you’ll see at the position. In the NFL, he was listed at 6-foot-4, 264 pounds. Unsurprisingly, he towered over much of his high school competition.
The story first emerged on Jacobs’ own podcast, “Facts Over Feelings,” last year. At the time, Jacobs was trying to emphasize the impact that music can have on kids.
Growing up, Jacobs listened to music artists who referenced cocaine use. So when he had a chance to try some, he did it. However, he says it wasn’t reflective of who he was growing up.
“I was no troublemaker. I ain’t got in to real trouble or anything like that. I had a pretty good support system. It was just some (expletive) I tried, and that was it,” he said last year.
Jacobs was a notable rival for the New England Patriots during his time with the Giants. The powerful back was part of New York’s championship runs in 2007 and 2011, both of which came at the expense of the Patriots.
Jacobs wasn’t shy about shoving the wins in New England’s face. Following the Giants’ win in Super Bowl XLVI, Jacobs had some colorful comments on the field.
“We decapitated them,” Jacobs said. “They can’t wear that crown no more, baby. They can’t wear that crown anymore.”
Jacobs played nine total seasons in the NFL. A fourth-round pick in 2005, he spent his first seven seasons with the Giants before joining the 49ers. He returned to New York for one final season in 2013.
