Man Utd will consider a move for the free agent forward in the summer transfer window.

Jonathan David says he wants to play at the 'very highest level' as he considers the next major move in his career. The 25-year-old will become a free agent this summer, with Manchester United one of the clubs contemplating an offer for the Lille striker.

David has netted an impressive 107 goals in 224 appearances during his five-year spell with Lille and has attracted attention from clubs across Europe. Newcastle, Tottenham and West Ham have all been credited with interest in a summer move, while the forward has admitted he'd love to play in La Liga.

It is understood United will have a tight summer budget, something that makes David even more appealing because he would not command a transfer fee. The Canadian international would also bring plenty of experience to the forward line and offer suitable competition to Rasmus Hojlund in attack. However, Ruben Amorim could find it difficult to convince him to join the club, particularly if they don't qualify for the Champions League.

Jonathan David explains what he wants at next club

Jonathan David grabbed a goal and an assist as Canada defeated fierce rivals USA in the Nations League on Sunday night, in what was the latest display of his undisputed talent. The performance led to fresh speculation over his long-term future, and after the match he was quizzed on his plans as he nears the end of his current Lille deal.

“Obviously, with this summer going on, I am not sure if I am staying or going,” David told Golazo America. “But if I do end up going, I have to push myself at the very highest level.

“When you play for a big club, your position [in the team] is never guaranteed and you need to fight. I am never guaranteed anywhere I go to start every game and play every game, I have to perform. I am willing to fight. I know it’s an important year. It’s a big decision. I will make a wise decision.”

Manchester United prioritise striker signing

Manchester United have prioritised the addition of a striker in the summer transfer window and are considering various options depending on whether they qualify for the Champions League or not. They might find it difficult to finance a move for someone like Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, or Dusan Vlahovic without the windfall of competition prize money and could have to consider cheaper alternatives.

Jonathan David is an appealing option given he will become a free agent, though there will be a fierce fight for his signature. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jamie Vardy are both also out-of-contract this summer, but would be regressive signings with regard to their age profile and ability.

United have scouted both Bryan Mbeumo and Liam Delap, who could be attainable if Ipswich are relegated back to the Championship. There is a long-term interest in Benjamin Sesko, but they are unlikely to be able to afford him this summer.
