Rangers are on the verge of a potential takeover by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises, but a silly claim about the deal has been dismissed.
Cavenagh and the 49ers are in talks at Ibrox to complete a takeover soon after purchasing majority shares at the Gers.
The US consortium’s arrival will usher in a new era at the Light Blues, leading to possible changes in the coming months.
It will undoubtedly be historic for the Scottish game if and when the Americans arrive in Glasgow, with several people potentially wanting to take credit for it.

Les Allan not dealmaker for Rangers
Keith Jackson has dismissed suggestions that Les Allan is a possible dealmaker for the Rangers takeover.

The Daily Record journalist has admitted that the investment banker connected Cavenagh with the Gers, but he didn’t have any role beyond that.

Jackson feels crediting Allan for putting the potential Ibrox takeover together is “silly”, suggesting the investment banker had a small contribution in the grand scheme of things.
Speaking on Hotline Live (25 March), the journalist said: “There’s no doubt [Allan] knew Cavenagh and that he knew Cavenagh was really actively starting to look at getting involved in European football. And there’s no doubt that he was part of the process connecting this party with that party.
“But that’s just about it. And it’s still significant because one doesn’t happen without the other. But to scream headlines that this is the dealmaker is just silly.”
Cavenagh and 49ers have much work to do at Ibrox
Cavenagh and the 49ers’ Rangers takeover could potentially be transformative for the Scottish Premiership.
The Gers desperately require much-needed financial stability, and the US consortium will be expected to turn things around in the coming years.
As things stand, the Light Blues are miles behind Celtic in the league table, highlighting the gap between the two squads.
While Barry Ferguson got the better of Brandan Rodgers at Parkhead before the international break, Rangers are still 13 points behind their Old Firm rivals in the Scottish Premiership.
The Bears have struggled domestically this season, being knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Queen’s Park in the fifth round of the competition.
Ferguson can salvage the season if he manages to be successful in the Europa League, but that will be challenging.
The Glaswegian outfit will face Athletic Club in the quarter-finals of the competition, as the road to Bilbao is littered with obstacles.
After years of mismanagement in the boardroom, the Ibrox faithful will definitely be looking forward to the American takeover.
