'Unique individual' – Man Utd legend told his ‘enigma’ status is far from the truth around his real personality

Manchester United fans have received an incredibly rare insight into what Red Devils legend Roy Keane is like away from the cameras and his punditry duties.

Roy Keane was widely admired for his no-nonsense approach on the pitch and his tough-as-nails reputation as a legendary Manchester United captain of the past.

The 53-year-old Irishman excelled as a commanding box-to-box midfielder in his prime and Keane impressed with his leadership skills on the pitch and off it.

Keane famously captained the iconic United side under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson to a memorable continental treble win in the 1998-99 season.

The Irish hardman captured seven Premier League titles, a Champions League and four League Cups during his legendary Red Devils spell at Old Trafford.

Keane’s run as United captain and as a Red Devils player came to an end in 2005 after Sir Alex Ferguson axed him from the club amid a fractured relationship.

The United legend went on to play briefly for Scottish side Celtic before Keane called it time on his prolific playing career at club level in 2006.

What Roy Keane’s daughter said about Man Utd legend when he is not on camera or working as a pundit

Roy Keane entered the world of coaching and management after he retired and he had managerial stints with both Sunderland and Ipswich Town.

The ex-Manchester United captain also served as assistant manager for the Republic of Ireland, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest in his post-solo management career.

Keane has since become one of the leading figures in football punditry after the Irishman walked away from coaching and football management.

The former Nottingham Forest star has been a staple addition to the Sky Sports punditry team for Premier League matches and is often box-office entertainment.

Keane has also done punditry with ITV for international matches and offered his analysis during fixtures at the World Cup and at the Euros.

Caragh Keane is the United legend’s daughter and she opened up about her father supporting her after she was diagnosed with lupus, which is an autoimmune disease.

The 29-year-old said that people think Keane is “an enigma” due to his personality, but she insisted that his humour shines away from the camera and punditry as well.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Caragh said: “Do you know what so many people say? He’s a bit of an enigma.

“But being my dad, he’s just one of the funniest people you will meet. He is so very witty.”

Caragh Keane shares what Man Utd legend Roy Keane has done for her amid her battle with her condition

Caragh Keane was diagnosed with her autoimmune condition when she was 25 only four years ago and it can lead to joint pain, skin rashes and tiredness.

The former United captain’s daughter called Keane a “unique individual” and praised the Sky Sports and ITV pundit for what he has done for her during her struggles.

“He’s kind of a unique individual,” Caragh added.

“I’m very grateful to have him, and he’s great to chat to. You’ll always get good advice from my dad.

“With our Irish background, he’s always very ‘let go of things’ or ‘you’re on a path’ and ‘someone’s looking out for you.’

“When I’ve been at my lowest, that’s been really helpful.”

United are 13th in the Premier League table and the Red Devils will return to Premier League action on 1st April against Nottingham Forest at City Ground.
