Nottingham Forest stance emerges on player with 'many admirers' as contract runs down

Nottingham Forest are reported to be working on a contract extension for star full-back Neco Williams.

The Reds have worked hard behind the scenes in recent months to ensure that stars like Murillo and Chris Wood are tied down to long-term deals, and now it seems it is the turn of ex-Liverpool man Williams.

His current deal expires in the summer of next year, and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Forest are keen to extend the Wales international’s stay at the City Ground.

He posted on X today: “Understand Nottingham Forest are working on extending Neco Williams’ contract, which expires in June 2026.

“The player has many admirers, but Forest are looking to stop any other interest with a new deal for the player who’s had an impressive season.”

Wrexham-born Williams, who will be 24 next month, was recruited by former Forest boss Steve Cooper in July 2022 for a fee understood to be in the region of £17m.

He has since made 82 appearances for the Reds and become a key part of a team chasing Champions League qualification and further progress in the FA Cup under current Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

Fellow full-back Ola Aina is also the subject of contract speculation amid on-going rumours of a new deal being in the offing.

He said in September: "All I can say is I am really happy at Forest. Fantastic club, I feel at home and we're just building. I'm building, the club's building. Let's just see what happens in the future."

Although there has been no announcement since then, Aina reiterated his stance in a recent interview with Sky Sports , making clear he is settled on the banks of the Trent.

And although Williams’ situation has largely gone under the radar, it seems the City Ground hierarchy see him as a key man as they bid to build on what has already been an excellent campaign Trentside.
