What is an embryo? Is it a clump of cells, a soul, a person?
At a moment when this question of what an embryo is, how we should think about it, and what respect, dignity, or legal rights it is due, is the subject of judicial scrutiny, this project examines embryos from multiple distinct perspectives.
It profiles the researchers at the frontiers of studying early human development, the world of embryo “adoption” and the fate of the million-plus frozen embryos in cryotanks, and efforts to visualize and patent in vitro embryo growth.
