PHOENIX — While there was initial worry when Jayson Tatum turned his left ankle Monday against the Kings, all indications point to how it’s not too serious an injury. Tatum was present at Celtics shootaround at PHX Arena on Wednesday, and afterwards, he was upgraded on the injury report from doubtful to questionable.
The Celtics play the Suns at 10 p.m. Wednesday as part of their six-game road trip. Tatum looked relatively healthy as he got in a light workout at shootaround. So that’s a positive that the injury is not serious and he could even play in Wednesday’s game.
Here’s a look at Tatum going through his workouts at shootaround:
Tatum didn’t speak to media after shootaround, but he didn’t have any noticeable extra protection on his left ankle sprain. He left Monday’s win over the Kings midway through the third quarter due to Domantas Sabonis being in his landing space on a 3-pointer.
“I’m feeling good, man,” Tatum told the “New Heights” podcast about his ankle. “It’s a few benefits to being 27. You recover a little bit faster. I’ll be alright.“
The Celtics will naturally be cautious with Tatum’s ankle going forward as the playoffs are less than a month away. So even though Tatum loves to play in his games, the priority is for him to be at 100% during the most important part of the year. But it’s looking like he could play in Wednesday’s game following his morning workout.
