Talented Ohio State quarterback could be the answer to problems for the Pittsburgh Steelers

COLUMBUS, Ohio --Ohio State quarterback Will Howard was able to rectify a rocky NFL Combine showing on Wednesday in Columbus. Howard dazzled with multiple crisp deep balls, and it was all in front of Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, general manager Omar Khan, and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

The Steelers met with Howard at the NFL Combine, and have shown an interest in the quarterback position, specifically around the third or fourth round throughout the cycle. The went to Alabama to see Jalen Milroe and then went to Texas to evaluate Quinn Ewers. Tyler Shough came to Pittsburgh for a pre-draft visit.

All of the brass took Howard out to dinner, along with running backs Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson. Howard said that meeting went well, and the NFL Combine meeting also checked boxes.

“Yeah, it’s been really good with them,” Howard said on Wednesday. “I spent some time with them yesterday, with Coach Tomlin and Coach Smith. It’s really good. I really like those guys. It’s close to home for me. It’s close to here. There’s a lot of things to like about it. You never know. Anything can happen. It’s definitely a great spot. They all are.”

Howard transferred into Columbus from Kansas State, where he was a multiple-year starter. During his season, the Buckeyes were an up-and-down offense, but became an elite unit once Howard’s play took a significant leap in the College Football Playoff.

If the Steelers want to land someone like Howard, it would be either in the third or fourth round. They would have to prefer him to the other quarterbacks, but Howard has shown himself capable.
