Celtics Make Jayson Tatum Announcement After Injury vs. Kings

The Boston Celtics won their fifth straight game on Monday night with a 113-95 victory over the Sacramento Kings, but they suffered a scare when their superstar forward Jayson Tatum was forced out of the game early with an ankle injury. On Wednesday, the team provided a big update on Tatum's injury status.

In the third quarter, Tatum nailed a tough three-point shot over Domantas Sabonis, who slid under Tatum's landing spot, causing him to land awkwardly on his ankle. Tatum hit his ensuing free throw before departing the game and not returning, but he didn't seem too worried about the ailment when recently discussing it.

"I'm feeling good man. There's a few benefits to being 27," Tatum said on "New Heights." "You recover a little bit faster. I'll be alright."

With the Celtics virtually locked into the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, it seemed highly unlikely that Tatum would play against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night. However, hours before the game, Boston upgraded Tatum's status from doubtful to questionable, leaving the door open for him to take the floor.

"The Celtics have upgraded Jayson Tatum to questionable tonight in Phoenix," Marc Stein shared in a post on X.

Tatum has once again led the way for the Celtics this season, averaging 27.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, and six assists per game while shooting 45.5% from the field. He earned his sixth straight All-Star selection this year, and he has a very good shot at making the First-Team All-NBA squad when the season wraps up too.

Boston will look to win their sixth straight games on Wednesday against the Suns, regardless of whether or not Tatum is on the floor. Tip-off for this contest is set for 10 p.m. ET.
