Russ Introduces Himself to Giants Fans

On Tuesday, the New York Giants found their starting quarterback.

Just days removed from acquiring veteran Jameis Winston, the Giants signed quarterback Russell Wilson to a fully guaranteed one-year, $10.5 million deal. With incentives, Wilson can earn up to $21 million.

The signing immediately vaults Wilson to the top of the depth chart and raises the floor of a New York team that badly needs to win games to save general manager Joe Schoen's job.

Wilson quickly introduced himself to Giants fans with a five-word message on social media.

"Can't wait to do it again," he posted alongside a picture of his new home, MetLife Stadium.

Of course, MetLife Stadium is where Wilson won his only Super Bowl ring. In Super Bowl XLVIII, the Seattle Seahawks dismantled the Denver Broncos, 43-8, in a contest clinched by Percy Harvin's halftime kickoff return.

Wilson was great in the biggest game of his life, throwing for 206 yards and two scores on 25 attempts. While MetLife hasn't hosted a Super Bowl – or a playoff game – since, Wilson did make it back to the big game, losing to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots on one of the sport's most famous interceptions of all time.

Wilson will join the Giants three years removed from his Seahawks tenure. He spent two rocky years with the Denver Broncos where he was released before playing a down of a five-year extension, opting to play for the league minimum with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In 2024, Wilson won six of his first seven starts. The Steelers looked the part as legitimate competitors before a brutal second-half schedule laid waste to a promising start. Pittsburgh lost its final four regular season games and was blown out in the Wild Card Round.

A first-round loss may have meant stagnation for the Steelers, but if the Giants found as much fortune in 2025, he'd be considered a hero. He'll be tasked with guiding New York with a steady hand, rather than the volatile Winston, and possibly mentor a rookie quarterback should one be taken in April's NFL Draft.

Wilson will have a chance at finding revenge against Denver when New York visits Mile High in 2025.
