West Ham could cash in on a player to boost their summer transfer plans.

West Ham are said to be in for a pay day as they prepare to improve their squad this summer. Graham Potter is likely going to want to make significant changes to his outfit, with the Irons boss having struggled to make a big impact so far.

Consistency has been a tough trait to find for Potter, and indeed for West Ham as a collective throughout the season, and Potter is likely to be deciding who he wants to stay and go between now and the end of the season.

Significant changes to the squad are expected, but West Ham will have to keep an eye on profit and Sustainability rules having spent a fair amount over recent years. In that vein, they could be set for a big financial boost in the form of Nayef Aguerd, who is currently on loan with La Liga club Real Sociedad.

Aguerd has been a regular for La Real, making 20 league appearances to date, and according to Estadio Deportivo, the Basque club are interested in striking a permanent deal this summer. West Ham signed Aguerd for £30million from Rennes in 2022, and it’s likely they will want at least the bulk of that back. Aguerd has made 39 league appearances for the Hammers to date, and it’s unclear whether Potter will give him a chance this summer.

But if there is serious interest from Real Sociedad over a permanent deal for a significant fee, Potter and the Hammers may well cash in. Aguerd has previously admitted that he always had the desire to play in Spain, telling Marca: "I had a dream of playing in LaLiga and wanted to learn Spanish so I'd be ready if the opportunity came.

The 28-year-old has managed 34 appearances across all competitions for La Real, who haven’t had the best of seasons, currently 12th in La Liga and having dropped out of Europe. The Basque club have regularly qualified for Europe over recent years, but departures meant they were expecting a drop-off this term, and that’s how it has panned out. They will be hoping to pick back up next term, and they may start their bid with a relatively big money deal for Aguerd, providing Potter doesn’t demand to get a look at him first in pre-season.
