Rene Meulensteen has sent a clear message to Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos about their boldest objective for Manchester United since their arrival at Old Trafford.
The 61-year-old Dutchman was a key Manchester United first-team coach under legendary former Red Devils and Aberdeen manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
During his time at Old Trafford, Rene Meulensteen watched the Red Devils hoover up the major silverware, including winning multiple Premier League titles.
Meulensteen left Old Trafford after Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 and former United manager David Moyes did not retain him for his coaching staff.
The Red Devils have struggled in the aftermath of Ferguson’s departure and United have not won the Premier League title since the end of the 2012-13 campaign.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe became United co-owner in 2023 and the 72-year-old Ineos chief has been keen to take the Red Devils back to the top of English football.

The Red Devils languish in 13th place in the league table and Ruben Amorim’s men are all but certain to finish outside of the Premier League top four.
United CEO Omar Berrada previously informed Red Devils staff about the club’s plan to win the Premier League title in 2028, which marks the 150th anniversary.
‘Project 150,’ as the aforementioned plan is dubbed, is ambitious for the Red Devils considering the woes that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos have faced at Old Trafford.
Speaking on The High Performance Podcast, Rene Meulensteen sent a ruthless reality check to Ratcliffe and Co about the state of United.
During a discussion on United’s trajectory going forward, he said: “They’re miles away.”

Rene Meulensteen points out what Man Utd are missing in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era
With Meulensteen not expecting United to pull off ‘Project 150,’ the ex-Red Devils first-team coach highlighted what the club have lost since Sir Alex Ferguson’s exit.
“If you look at Manchester United, what they’ve lost is a kind of an authority, a kind of a fear factor, a kind of an identity so to speak,” he added.
“When Man United came to town, they rolled up, this is what you’re going to get. At this moment in time, you don’t know what you’re going to get, you know?
“And that is, I think, testament for a lot of things. A lot of changes that haven’t taken place, so many managers have come and gone.”
United will return to action after the March international break when they face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League at City Ground on 1st April.
