Can Bills Find All-Pro Replacement In Draft?

At the height of his career, Buffalo Bills linebacker Matt Milano was one of the best linebackers in the game and a first-team All-Pro.

Over the last two seasons, though, Milano has dealt with multiple injuries that have forced him to play in just nine games during that span. Along the way, the Boston College product has seen young Terrel Bernard step up in his place.

A pay-cut signed last week shows that the Bills are already thinking about moving on from Milano at least until after the 2025 season. It's why the team should at least consider drafting a linebacker early in April's Draft if they are truly serious about moving on from Milano.

That's at least what Bleacher Report's Alex Ballentine has in mind.

"The Bills' decision to restructure Matt Milano's deal with a pay cut likely guarantees the veteran is on the roster for 2025. A post-June 1 cut would have saved money, but they freed up cash now by getting him to agree to the pay cut. That doesn't mean his job is safe in 2026, though," Ballentine said. "The reality is he's a 30-year-old linebacker who has played nine games over the last two seasons. Drafting his successor in this year's draft would be a wise move."

Milano's best days look to be behind him. It's a sad potential ending to what could have been a great career, but the Bills captain needs to be on the field instead of in the injury room.

As Buffalo tries to get younger while paying franchise quarterback $55 million, the draft is the best spot to find one.
