Player Ratings: Arsenal 3-0 Real Madrid; UEFA Women’s Champions League

[Real Madrid](https://www.managingmadrid.com) Femenino threw away their 2-0 lead and their chances of a first UEFA Women’s [Champions League](https://www.sbnation.com/champions-league) semi-final berth as they lost 3-0 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.

Real Madrid started the match relatively well, defending astutely for the first half, as Maëlle Lakrar had to clear out multiple fires at once. They did not create much in the final third until the last few minutes, but the game was in their hands.

However, Las Blancas threw away their two-goal lead in a matter of 10 minutes as Alessia Russo’s brace sandwiched Mariona Caldentey’s free header.

Here are the player ratings from the match.

**Misa — 6:** Could not have done much for the goals conceded. Had four saves — one of which was a brilliant, point-blank shot from Russo inside the penalty area. Did not face a lot of shots on goal despite Arsenal dominance in the first half, but second half was a different story. Real Madrid almost conceded in added time due to her coming out of the box by some distance.

**Sheila García — 5:** Started the match well, making a lot of challenges to keep the game goalless, but the gap between her and Maria Mendez was exploited to perfection by Arsenal. Partly at fault for two of Arsenal’s three goals.

**Maëlle Lakrar — 7:** The best Real Madrid player by quite some distance. Won her duels — seven in total — and had a few brilliant challenges inside the box. Eight clearances, four tackles, one interception. Passed the ball well, but her influence waned down in the second half.

**María Mendez — 5.5:** Defended well in the first half and was one of Real Madrid’s best players, but the space between her and García kept getting exploited. Also forced Misa into a brilliant save after giving the ball away to Russo.

**Olga Carmona — 4:** All three goals came from her side. She did not do much on either end of the pitch. Struggled to defend against Chloe Kelly all night, and kept giving her too much space and respect. Awful night from the captain.

**Sandie Toletti — 5.5** Had to drop in between the center-backs to help with keeping the ball, but so many times Toletti was unlucky to have an outlet. Did well defensively but sometimes struggled a lot with Arsenal’s intense pressure.

**Filippa Angeldahl — 5:** Struggled a lot with Arsenal’s intensity, and was caught out in possession a bunch of times. Did have Real Madrid’s best chance of the first half, though. Make of that what you will.

**Caroline Weir — 5:** Did a few flicks here and there, but Arsenal did a good job of keeping her isolated, blocking out all passing lanes. She had a few nice passes, but Real Madrid needed more from her.

**Athenea Del Castillo — 4.5** Came back to defend a bunch of times, but she had no influence in the attack.

**Signe Bruun — 5:** Did not have much to do in the first half as she rarely got the ball, but Bruun was Real Madrid’s outlet most times whenever they tried too play long. Unfortunately she did not do

**Linda Caicedo — 5:** Struggled to get involved all night. Had one really good chance to score but was offside. She forced a really good save out of van Domselaar in added time, but that was all.

### Substitutes:

**Alba Redondo — 5:** Good pass to Linda for Real Madrid’s best chance of the game.

**Naomie Feller — 5:** Was caught on her blindside by Caitlin Foord which led to a chance by Arsenal late in the game.

**Yasmim — 5:** Struggled to contain Kelly like her counterpart.
