Manchester United have the chance to bolster their ranks with some signings this summer

Manchester United will be looking to add some more quality to their squad in the next window. The Red Devils turned to Ruben Amorim earlier this season after he caught their eye at Sporting Lisbon. He was picked as their replacement for Erik ten Hag.

His side find themselves sat in 13th place in the Premier League table after a disappointing campaign. They have nine fixtures left to get through. The North West outfit won 3-0 away at Leicester City in their last outing before the international break so should be in confident mood right now.

Manchester United target Chris Rigg at Sunderland

According to CaughtOffside, United have placed Sunderland star Chris Rigg at the ‘top’ of their list of transfer targets ahead of the summer and have made landing him a ‘priority’. The likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Brighton and Hove Albion have also been mentioned as potential suitors. The Black Cats will face a real battle to keep hold of the prospect.

Rigg, 17, is being tipped for big things down the line. He has risen up through the academy ranks of his current club and has become a key player for them over the past couple of years. The teenager was a regular at various different youth levels before stepping up to the first-team.

He has made 61 appearances for the Sunderland in all competitions, 36 of which have come this season, and he has scored seven goals. Regis Le Bris’ side are sat in the play-offs as they eye promotion from the Championship. Rigg is under contract until 2027 so they are under no immediate pressure to sell him just yet and can wait for the right offer to come in for his services.

After penning a deal last year, he told the Black Cats’ website at the time: “I am absolutely buzzing, to be honest. It is a proud moment for myself and my family to be signing my first professional contract at a Club like Sunderland. I have been dying to sign it for almost a year now. I want to develop as a player and improve as a person – and I believe this is the best place for me to do that.”

Will Manchester United sign Chris Rigg?

Time will tell whether United will be able to land Rigg. A few different teams have been linked with him meaning they would need to see off competition from elsewhere to land his signature. If he did join, he would give them more competition and depth in midfield and would certainly be a name for supporters to keep an eye out for in the future.

Speaking after their victory at Leicester last time out, Amorim said: "I think it was good.I felt a little bit a lack of energy, but they gave everything. Some players were tired and also with the Ayden [Heaven] problem. I think we deserved the win and we controlled the game. We could be better withthe ball but I understand after these two weeks with a lot of games. I think the lads deserved the win. And it was a perfectway to end this week with the win for our away supporters."
