[Real Madrid](https://www.managingmadrid.com) Femenino manager Alberto Toril spoke about the lack of energy and intensity in the team following a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.
Real Madrid were run over by Arsenal in a dominant second-half performance from the home side. Toril admitted that the Gunners were absolutely deserving of the win, but highlighted Real Madrid’s demanding March schedule.
He said: “It was a tough game for us. Arsenal were superior. We tried to compete well. We’re coming off a tough March, with a lot of demanding matches and little player rotation. We came in a bit saturated at the end. Congratulations to Arsenal. They deserved to go through. We played a good part of the tie, not just the second half. So, we’ll learn from it for the future.”
### Toril on why he made substitutions so late
“Making changes could be a problem, there could have been extra time, I think we lacked energy, we’re coming off intense days and we had few players in that rotation, we lacked energy and control, our two center backs don’t have substitutes and we arrived just in time, to be honest.”
### Toril on what Real Madrid need to do to advance to the next stage
“We’ll get to this point better prepared, with more chances, stronger. We’re the team in Europe that has played the most matches so far. They have a 12-team league title, so obviously, they’re fresher. They outplayed us on many occasions.”
### Toril on the occasion and atmosphere
“The physical and mental aspects count, the demands of a tie like this, what you’re playing for, it shows, and we saw it today, they tried, but when you have a superior team in front of you, congratulations.”
### Toril on what was missing
“You need to arrive in better condition. In the middle, we have had important injuries, \[and\] we have lacked energy today. They have been better than us in that.”
