Will Campbell has been scrutinized by NFL scouts because of his arm length — or lack thereof.
At the NFL Combine, the LSU product’s arms measured at 32 5/8 inches. In the past, NFL teams want tackles to measure at 33 inches. But when he was measured by NFL scouts at LSU’s pro day, Campbell’s arm length was 33 inches.
Campbell was asked about the length of his arms, to which he delivered a strong message — especially to those who don’t make the decisions in the NFL.
“For two years, nobody had any measurements on me and nobody said anything about my play,” Campbell told reporters. “So now, all of a sudden, arm length decides if I’m a good player or not? I think it’s B.S. Any decision makers in the NFL, they don’t really care. It’s all people who don’t coach, and they don’t coach for a reason.”
Campbell has been linked to the New England Patriots in mock drafts and the offensive tackle has taken a pre-draft visit with the team at Gillette Stadium, NFL Network reported.
Now that New England addressed its wide receiver need after signing Stefon Diggs on Tuesday, the Patriots now need to turn their attention to offensive tackle. Campbell started at left tackle as a true freshman at LSU, allowed just two sacks in 38 collegiate games and earned consensus All-American honors last year.
At the NFL Combine, sources told MassLive that the Patriots view Campbell as a tackle prospect.
The Patriots have the No. 4 pick in next month’s draft. While it’s unclear how they’ll utilize it, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them use it on a tackle like Campbell or Armand Membou.
