Bills Spending Spree Ranks as No. 1 Offseason

Plenty of analysts remain split on just how good the offseason has been for the Buffalo Bills.

On the one hand, the organization spent plenty of money in an attempt to put their roster over the hump in a loaded AFC. Veterans like Joshua Palmer and Joey Bosa should be expected to make an immediate impact.

The organization also re-signed several key players from their core like Greg Rousseau and Terrel Bernard.

Not everything has been perfect to this point. Buffalo signed Michael Hoecht and Larry Ogunjobi only to have them both be suspended by the league for violating the league's PED policy a few days later.

But compared to the rest of the league, the Bills came away looking much better off.

ESPN's Ben Solak said as much while ranking Buffalo as the top team of the offseason with their additions and long-term extensions at this point.

"The Shakir extension is only $15 million per year," Solak said. "Rousseau got $20 million per year. Bernard is at $12.5 million per year. Those are three young cornerstones of a perennial contender, and they're staying in Buffalo for remarkably less than their open market number. The Bills were right to retain the players who helped get them to the AFC Championship Game, even if they haven't yet slayed the dragon that is the Chiefs."

Buffalo still has needs along the roster. They need to figure out a way to re-sign James Cook and Christian Benford while remaining cap compliant. They have only $5 million in cap space to spend at the moment.

The team also has to go through the Draft and develop their young defense some more along with providing depth for the offensive line.

Buffalo may not be done with their offseason, but many are already claiming them victors of the offseason.
