Rockies partner to broadcast select games over-the-air

Ten Colorado Rockies games during the 2025 season are being picked up by KTVD to be broadcasted over the air.

The Rockies have been hidden behind cable packages and streaming services for decades, but this partnership, similar to that of the Avalanche and Nuggets, will allow fans an extremely accessible option to watch baseball. The team’s regional sports network survived several name changes and ownership handoffs before going under as the 2023 season wrapped up. In 2024, an 11th-hour deal got the Rockies onto real TV for the season as they took their Rockies.TV stream and found channels for it on the major cable and satellite providers.

The Rockies will still be available for the full season on Rockies.TV through MLB.TV or watch via cable and satellite providers at the same stations as last season. It’s $99.99 for the entire season of Rockies baseball from a single in-market stream from MLB.com. The Rockies large television territory that includes Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico and parts of Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Idaho means streaming is the most proven option for many Rockies fans.

But for those very close to Coors Field, on 10 consecutive Fridays starting May 23, the Rockies will be picked up by Channel 20—with five of those also going on KUSA/9News. Those networks are available over-the-air to those in and around Denver.

The big shift for where to find the Rockies on TV has happened because of the collapse of regional sports networks across the country, and the Rockies, like two of their NL West rivals who also lost their traditional cable RSNs during the 2023 season, have broadcasts run by MLB. The Rockies were luckier than the D-Backs and Padres, who had the literal cord plugged mid-season.

Part of these RSN disputes and collapses is what kept the Avalanche and Nuggets off TV for years in Denver, and in the meantime, they broadcasted a combined 40 games on KTVD/KUSA this winter. Those teams have finally reached a deal with Comcast to put Altitude back on the air, though they might keep some games over the air since they’ve seen great success from the partnership. The Rockeis have never had a game not on TV during this stretch, unlike their winter sports peers, so they deserve some praise there.

And the Rockies are now just the latest team to put some games back over-the-air after years of baseball going toward RSNs and forcing their customers to get cable. In the olden days, Braves and Cubs fans could watch their games all year long on TBS and WGN. Now, some teams like the Angeles have gone back to putting select games free over-the-air.
