Another team emerges as a lurking threat for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Aaron Rodgers

The Minnesota Vikings like what they have in second year quarterback J.J. McCarthy, even after he missed his entire rookie season. While reports stated they were out of the Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes, it does not seem that way just yet.

Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said on Wednesday the team likes where they stand at the quarterback position, but there remains work to be done, and Rodgers certainly can not be fully ruled out.

“I think we got to a place where we just said, everybody was transparent, but right now we feel good about where we’re going, and that’s really how it ended,” Adofo-Mensah told reporters. “It’s ultimately up to him, it’s hard to talk about a player who’s not under contract for our team and who isn’t a member of this team. It’s ultimately up to him what he decides to do with his future, but that’s kind of where we left it. I know (Vikings head coach) Kevin (O’Connell) and him have a great relationship still, they’ll still have a relationship and keep talking, but right now I’m focused on the two players that are in our room right now and my personnel process going forward.”

Rodgers has contemplated retirement, though visiting the Steelers would seem to hint the team and Rodgers have mutual interest in one another and that deal could get done. Adam Schefter of ESPN said this now hammers open the ability for the Steelers and Rodgers to get a deal done. However, his interest in the Vikings could throw a curveball in those plans.

Rodgers met with head coach Mike Tomlin, general manager Omar Khan, and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. However, he left without a deal, but the team and Rodgers never talked about money on the visit. Now, it is up to him to decide what he wants to do with his 2025 season, whether that is playing football or not, and if so, which city.
